1969 AHRA Winter Nationals

Nice shot of the Fred Gibb Camaro even though it was beat by a 10.82/129 by the Hemi

Very cool pic.

The car was only a month old at that time. It had one carb vs 2-4s on the Hemi. That was a respectable E.T. at that point in time. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif

In fact, I think that picture was taken at it's maiden voyage. The story I always heard was it almost beat Sox & Martin Hemi it's first time out. Well you know how stories are. That get better thru the years!!

That is a great picture!! I believe that was the maiden voyage probably right after DH and Fred made some test runs at KCIR. I wish the resto on that car was like that instead of the later version! Wonder where that hood is? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

Keep in mind that Vanke had full factory backing from Chrysler. What did Gibb get from GM?

Fred was factory back by buying 50 each of the Nova's & ZL-1 Camaros. As I have stated before I think I would have became a Ford dealer back then. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

As did Don Yenko, and a few others, Fred certainly had a vision, and a belief that the future was in selling hi performance muscle cars. For a small town dealer to place an order for 50 all most identical cars, not once, but twice, IMO, would take a huge leap of faith. I would imagine he and Helen had a few heart to heart discussions about this. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif

Here's to Fred and Helen. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif
