ElCamino vent windows, are held to the frame with a small rivet. This is the rivet that is sold to replace the one I had to drill out to remove the glass/chrome frame. The end is hollow. Does anyone know how to install/crimp this rivet? Special tool? Certainly not any type of rivet, I've used.

Yes they required a special die for the hollow end. Then they were squeezed. Same as a riveted brake shoe. Sorry I can not help on th tool. Are the rivets you bought stainless steel or plated steel ? Mike |

Does anyone have a photo of a crimped one? Then we could figure out what would be required to form the new one...
Probably something with a male die to go into the end of the rivet a short chamfer to roll the rivet...

You can also try www.rivetsinstock.com That's the website for jay-cee sales and rivet co. They have just about any rivet you can think of and also stock the tubular set tool shown.

These guys have the rivet sets too. http://www.hansonrivet.com/w83.htm There made for a rivet squeezer, but for a one time application you might insert the die into a piece of round stock and lightly form the shop head by hand with a hammer. Mike Dha....They also have these.... http://www.hansonrivet.com/w78.htm Mr. Edit Guy ![]() |
