Nice '65 - and while it's not a great bargain at the asking price IMO, there's a "make offer" button that should make things more interesting.

Anybody out there can enlighten on how this "overdrive" functions?

My understanding is the cable actuates a solenoid that engages the gear reduction in the o/d unit. I have seen a few El Caminos over the years with this option. Pretty rare to see one...

Say you are cruising along in 3rd gear... pull the handle out, let off the throttle, it shifts to overdrive. Push the handle in, let off the throttle, it shifts back to straight 1-1 3rd gear. It makes for a sweet interstate cruiser! - Bill W

----My 1948 Jeepster with the 4-cyl L-head engine has basicly the same electric overdrive trans setup (Borg-Warner). Only difference is a switch under the throttle pedal that activates the standard gear when in overdrive. The overdrive could be activated in any gear. My Dad traded a Maytag washer and dryer for it in 1955 he was (among other things) the Maytag man. I learned to drive in this powerhouse (maximum speed of around 40-45 downhill) when I was twelve. Very few popo's around our area back then. He gave it to me on my fortieth birthday. I suspect he did it to me to get even for the way I tormented the poor jeep until I got something a bit faster.....Bill S
