Default Yenko Air Cleaner Asm stolen...help please.

Yenko 427 clone air cleaner assembly stolen--need to find replacement asap:

A buddy of mine recently purchased an extremely nice nut and bolt restored 69 Camaro 427 Yenko clone at a collector car auction. He paid BIG money for the car because it is a no excuses rotisserie job. Unfortunately, within 18 hours of the auction's end, and within the chain-link fenced and (supposedly) guarded holding area, some loser thief was able to steal the air cleaner set up off the car without being noticed. They took the single snorkel base, the cowl induction base plate, rubber seal, and the lid. Strangely, they left the filter element sitting in the engine compartment. The auction company has agreed to replace the parts, but my buddy needs to know where he can find the most correct-fitting and looking parts to get this back to it's previous state. He's searched Year One, Rick's, etc, but isn't sure if those parts are going to be "correct" for his otherwise spot-on Yenko clone. Please advise if there is a Yenko sticker or insignia that is supposed to go on the air cleaner lid, and where it can be obtained as well.

My friend never got a chance to look the car over long enough to be able to describe the missing parts in perfect detail. I thought the snorkel part of the air breather bottom was more round. , but I'll let you (as the experts) make the call. The idea is to replace the missing parts with whatever is closest to being "correct" for a 427 Yenko.

Thanks so much. Hopefully your suggestions will help erase what has started out to be a rocky ownership experience.

I can email pictures. It will not let me post here.

Thanks again............

Sounds like you need a repro cowl induction air cleaner assembly... any of those places you mentioned will have these in stock... while they are slightly different than an original GM piece, they are pretty nice, and alot of real Yenko cars have this same part on it, so I'm sure it will be sufficent for a clone. Should be less than 200.00.

Thanks for the help.
Yes it was behind a fenced off area where the cars are stored until they are picked up. The auction company is going to pay for the missing parts. Just a shame these things happen. So, he wants to replace it before they forget about it. Here are a few pictures.

Bandit, If the air cleaner in your pics was what was stolen, then it is OK. Based on what I can see from the pics, it was a repro. You can see the pics I took here to spot an original vs a repro.

A lot of good information on that thread.
Just to add from what I've seen, the original ZL-2 Air cleaners have a small notch cut out on the right hand snorkle seam.It comes into play in the center of the seam.
It's about a 5/8 inch long,& 1/16th deep.The repro is one continuos seam.
Also I don't know if your Camaro thread meant this, but I have not seen a difference between a 1970 Chevelle Manual trans ZL-2 air cleaner,& an Auto trans.
Good thread!
