Default The Seven-Ups Car Chase

This is THE best chase scene ever filmed.

Not sure if it was covered here but I'm sure you have all heard that ‘Jaws’ star Roy Scheider died at 75 last Sunday. He had been a long time business client of my wife and recently a neighbor of ours. Though I never took him out on my boat he was easy to kid around with. My favorite ( not that "need a bigger boat" line) was to joke about his driving in one of the all time great cop movie car chase scenes.

Rest In Peace Roy, thanks for the laughs.

One thing has always troubled me about car "action" scenes.
Why do hoods seem prone to pop open when someone shoots at
the front end of a car? What happens to the hinges? Do they
both get blown to atoms so they aren't visible as the hood
goes flying off....

Like most other things hollywood, they seem to gear their
somewhat technical information for the uneducated.

Am I dreaming or does the driver of the black car look like one of the guys who was in the black Charger during the Bullitt chase scene???? I know the engine sound effects sure sound the same.

Yes, that's what's-his-face the black Charger driver from Bullitt and yes, they used the 390 Mustang sound effect for the Ventura, minus the McQueen double-clutch up-shifts.

I think that Roy got to film this to make up for Gene Hackman's car chase in the "French Connection". The "Seven Ups" was a simular crime/cop/caper movie, only Roy was the lead instead of the partner.

RIP Roy, you were one of the greats.

That's Bill Hickman, one of the best of that era. They borrowed heavily from Bullitt in this chase.Little bit of trivia about Hickman he started racing sports cars with the likes of Phil Hill and Dan Gurney in the fifties out here, and was the first on the scene of his freind James Dean's accident.Dean let out his last breath in his arms on the side of the road.
