Default Musclecar Reunion

Another great weekend.

First of all, hats off to Chris and all the crew associated with the Musclecar Reunion.

Congrats to Mrs. Fred (Helen) Gibb and daughter Nancy for their induction into the HOF. When Chris told me about this a few weeks ago, but to keep it quite, as they wanted to surprise the inductees, made the moment really special when each name was called.

This award, coupled with another award at the York show in a few weeks, shows just how much of an impact people feel Fred Gibb had on the sport of drag racing. Even though not a driver, how one person, and a supportive family, made a difference in our sport/hobby.

As usual, it was a special weekend to be invited to take part in the Legends of Speed display, with the best part, pitted next to Larry Reyes, Roland Leong, their wives and all of the gang associated with the Hawaiian funnycar. All a class act. On Sunday Larry and Ruth made my grandson Drew’s day when they presented him with one of their autographed t-shirts. Drew may want to attend more shows, as Larry told him the next time he saw him, he would give him another shirt.

Other notables in the area were Diane Sox with a couple of Sox/Martin cars, The Gibb/sYc gang there with Helen’s Gibb Nova and Howie’s Gibb Camaro, Brian Rodebush who still owns the AMC SuperStock car he bought new, Donny ? and his dad who have the Wally Booth AMX pro-stock cars, and of course the one and only “Big Daddy”. Speaking of Big, on Sunday my wife Diana and Drew went to Big’s booth to get souvenirs, where Drew picked out a small “Swamp Rat”. The lady next to Big asked Drew, do you want him to sign it, Drew replied, “no thanks, I am going to play with it”.

As much fun as this was, the weekend was even more eventful for me, as I ended up running the Yellow Sub. On Saturday I ran a personal best of 12.35. On Sunday, and first the first time running off of a pro-tree, I surprised even myself when I dipped into the into low .20s, with a decent RT and my best 60 foot. Only problem was the 440 Mopar in the next lane got me a tad off the line and as much as I tried, I could not quite catch him, loosing by .009.

Congrats Tom and thanks for the summary of the event. Excuse my ignorance, but what is the "Yellow Sub". Any pix?

Thanks!

Honestly, I don't remember how that name came about...maybe from Rusty? It is yellow, and darn sure is as heavy as a submarine! Boy, looks like I need to update that feature page...it's about 4 tenths and 4 mph off now...!

I thought it was named such because it's a sub-frame vehicle..

Rob,

I can't take credit for naming that car!!! I think that someone was looking for a name went with the color. And it has too much attitude for it to be "Mellow"! At least the car wasn't green!

PS--could you please upgrade the membership!!!!
