Default Re: 67 Impala SS427 Convertible at Cruise-in Today

There's a dealer here who has one and claims that it is "1 of 12" so I called and asked what documentation they had. I caught him off guard and I'm pretty sure he really has no idea other than what the previous owner told him. It's a 4-speed car and he said the 4-speed cars are really rare, but I'd be willing to bet that a third of SS427s were sticks. At least through 1967, most hi-po cars were sticks till the advent of TH400.

There's another one in the area as well, so does that make it 2 of 12?

I believe 427TJ is correct, but let me add a little more: This car looks like it is an original '67 Impala SS with an L-36 427 (385HP), but is NOT an original SS427 (RPO Z-24) Impala. The SS427 (RPO Z-24) option had special emblems and did not carry the standard Impala emblem as seen on this cars fender. This car does look as though it has the SS427 hood with the fake tri-power insert for some reason. So, I guess the question could be... Which is not original, the emblems or the hood?

Depending on the build plant, look for the 4D on the cowl tag. This will determine of it is the RPO SS427 or a Super Sport w/427 or not (again dependent on plant).

Thanks for the info. I'll check it a little closer next time I see it. What would the value be if it is a Super Sport w/427? Any idea how many were built?
Thanks, James

To clarify, the number above is for SS427 cars. It does not include Impala SSs with 427s.

There is no breakdown on how many SS427s were ragtops.

In my opinion only, the Super Sport with a 427 is likely not worth much more than the Super Sport 396. The RPO package is what gives the Z24 SS427 it's value besides the fact that there are many VERY expensive and valuable parts on the Z24 that are not on the Super Sport. Having one of each of the 3 years and each body style adds even more value.

Mr70, are you crossing over to the dark side now or what?
