C-Joe almost got it
![]() The arm however is '68-'70 GTO & Tempest, with a 4speed (can not be a 3speed), and a bench seat. The number on the arm is 4177. This arm may have been used as early as '66 in the GTO/Tempest. According to original owners, the ball was a black one piece as installed in the GTO/Tempest. The attaching bracket is the standard SB version with 9 holes (not 7, although that version will work). This is somewhat unique bec/ the deuce has a BB trans x-member, but SB frame mounts, and a SB shifter bracket. Strange combo, but.... The rods are supposedly BB! I've not been able to confirm the part numbers of the 4 rods as such, but that is what I've been told. There are 4 numbers stamped into each of the 4 rods representing the last 4 digits of the part number (?). They are: 5775, 5776, 5777, & 5779. Hope this helps.

According to original owners, the ball was a black one piece as installed in the GTO/Tempest. [/ QUOTE ] Maybe according to SOME owners... but I have also spoken to a couple owners who claim differently. Moses swore the melted woodgrain knob in his car was the only one ever in it since day 1 of ownership, which would make sense since if he was into changing shift knobs he would have surely replaced that molten piece of melted plastic that was in it. Also, when I went to look at that blue Deuce in Ohio, in addition to the original shifter in the trunk, hood tach, and sport mirrors, I also found a 2 piece GM 4-speed knob in the glovebox... making me believe it was always on that car. I DO have a one piece black one on my car currently btw! ( I just still question if it's indeed "correct".) ![]()

Gotcha! I've heard the orig owner stories as well, I guess it's possible to get a non-black ball.... Not that it matters to much as I've got a white ball anyway - it just looks classic-cool!

Thank you Joe, Marlin, and everyone else for your detailed information. I have some parts to this shifter and am thinking about chasing what I am missing to complete it. I assume the levers are the same as Z/28 Camaro(FO FT OUT 1-2-3-4)? Waiting for the handle to come back from the plater. Thank you again, Tom.

The levers may/may not be the same, I'm not sure. The Deuce is a '70 and uses the 661 case and the sidecover with the TCS provision. This sidecover may differ from the '69 Z28's 660 case and non TCS sidecover. My logic is that since the sidecovers are a little bit different, the forks might be different - if the forks are different then the levers could be different - bolt vs. stud attachment.
A trans guru would be able to answer this better.
