The idea of putting another motor in a car that it didn't originally come in, is ok. That's what the suffix numbers tell you. What it was in, when it was made, and what type of car it came out of. People look at that to make sure that when it is sold, that it's not passed off as something else. But, that would take a long time to explain. As far as putting it in your Nova, here are some things to do and to consider.....
You will have to change motor mounts and radiator. You will also have to make the alternator wires longer(or shorter) I don't remember which. ![]() It all depends on what trans you have as well. Some modifications of bell cranks and flywheels and torque converters and such. Make sure the universal joints are good in the drive shaft! The front coil springs will also have to be replaced so that the control arms don't bottom out on the subframe because those 6cyl springs are most likely weak. For safety, you might as well upgrade the brakes, but I had a 300hp 307 in one of my Nova's with manual drum and got away with using them. I made sure that the front pads were riveted and not bonded. If the rear end has mono leafs, it's a good idea to upgrade to multi as well. You don't want to be doing a burnout with the horsepower and have that rear end bind up when the tires grip. You could possibly snap a leaf at the shock plate. It may sound overwhelming, but if you do it bit by bit, it will all come together. I'm sure others will chime in as well! Good luck with it! ![]() ![]()
