...Please tell me you used an oil that is high in zinc. Most modern oils do not have enough zinc to protect a flat tappet cam. I would hate to see a cam lobe go flat and possibly destroy that engine. This is the main reason why I joined. I am THAT concerned about that oil you used. [/ QUOTE ] Patrick, I use ZDDPlus religiously in all of my flat-tappet engines as it has the highest zinc content on the market. In fact, I have been a distributor for several years now. If anyone is in need, let me know. [email protected]

They sell for 10 bucks on their web site and Joe at the Parts Place also is selling for 10 bucks.

What about GM Engine Oil Supplement (EOS). I understand it is high in Zinc. It better be, I'm using it in my Chevelle.

Several of the oils from Amsoil meet or exceed the zinc/phosphorus levels necessary for flat tappet engines without any extra additives.

I run valvoline racing VR1 10w30 oil and a bottle of comp cams break in lube in my 406 as per my builders recommendation. I've got one of the xtreme energy hydraulic flat tappet cams in it with the high ramp rates/spring pressures and he said that was the best prevention for wiping a cam lobe. As others have mentioned, I would not run a synthetic oil.
