John Boughers had the car painted red in the late 70's when Champion Spark Plugs picked up sponsorship for the car. They paid for the red paint scheme.

Now John has the "Virginia Gentelman" with a broke axel. Hopefully it'll be fixed soon and then back to the track

John,
You will love this. I found the 75-80 Track Magazine cover in my archives. On the cover is John and myself. We both had killer years in 1978 and I wound up winning the track Championship in Super Pro. John ran in the Pro catagory. This was my debut year with the 1966 SS396 Chevelle. In 1977, another 1966 Chevelle won the championship at 75-80. His name is Sam Myers. Sam is the one who inspired me to build the new car and not cut up my 1969 Chevelle. Jerry |

Cool pictures Jerry, I believe the corvette was Johns first race car and he was about 65 when he started racing.

Probably about right.....maybe a little earlier, born 1917. I remember the car at 75-80 in the early 1970s. I think John bought it new if I'm not mistaken. Power windows were so cool back then. No race cars had them!
Another cool story. We were at a divisional race at Richmond Dragway, late 1970s. John broke a half shaft and we found a local military guy to open his shop and let John repair it. John was also a military guy and that opened the door for us on a weekend. Jerry |
