Default Paceme Steve Shauger's 1969 RS/SS 396 Convertible!

1969 RS/SS L78 Convertible

The car was purchased by Robert E Martin on Jan, 31st 1969 at Jack Maxton Chevrolet in Columbus, OH. Robert was 45 when he purchased the car and owned the car until 1977.

The third owner Robert Vogelsang (from LI, NY) purchased the car in Hershey, PA in April1979 and did virtually nothing with the car. The car was sold in 1982 (never registered the car)

The fourth owner Russell Johnson purchased the car in 1982, and had plans to restore the car and got as far as removing the engine and transmission. His plans changed as he joined the Navy and left the car covered in his parent garage for eight years. Thanksgiving of 1990 his cousin Eric Nurge approached Russell about selling the car, and a deal was consummated. Russell felt he would never get a chance to finish the car and Eric was a motivated enthusiast. (never registered the car)

Eric Nurge was the fifth owner and purchased the car Nov of 1990, and eventually moved it to his parents garage in March of 1991. Eric’s plan was to completely strip the car and treat it to a concours level restoration it deserved. The car was in remarkable condition, and virtually rust free. The car was completely disassembled and the sheet metal shell was stripped and painted. The restoration took just over 18 months and was completed in the fall of 1992. At that time the car had 57447 and today has 59123 miles. The only other work done on the car was in 2005 when the engine was rebuilt, engine compartment and all suspension components were finished and detailed.

Where do I fit in, well I met Eric in I believe 1993 at the Long Island Camaro Car Show at Bast Chevrolet in Seaford, NY. His car was parked next to mine (1967 RS/SS L78 Tahoe Turquoise 19K miles). His car was the hit of the show, although mine was no slouch. Eric and I have always kept in contact over the years and would frequently meet at various car shows. In June of 2008 I saw his car at the Westbury car show and he asked if I knew anyone interested. I made a few phone calls but nothing materialized. Fast forward to April of this year, Eric called me and we discussed the upcoming show season, and I asked if he still had his car, and as they say the rest is history.

The car is very unique because of its, color, performance equipment and comfort options in a convertible. The car is equipped with the following options:

A01 Tinted Glass
B93 Door Edge Guards
C06 Power Top
C50 Rear Defogger
D33 Remote Mirror
D55 Console
D80 Spoiler
G80 Positraction 373 ratio
J52 Disc Brakes
L78 396 -375 hp Special HP Engine
M21 4-Speed Close Ratio
N33 Comfortilt Wheel
N40 Power Steering
N34 Wood Steering Wheel
U69 AM/FM Radio
U35 Clock
U80 Rear Speaker
V31 Front Bumper Guards
V32 Rear Bumper Guards
ZJ7 Rally Wheels
ZJ9 Auxiliary Lighting
Z21 Style Trim Group
Z22 Rally Sport Package
Z27 Super Sport Package
Z87 Deluxe Interior Black Comfortweave

Thanks,

Steve

I don't understand how anyone could like that puke green color. Why don't you give it to me and I'll hide it away for you.

Seriously, I love the car. Very nice Steve. Yep, that's a keeper.

I don't care what anyone says, Frost Green is my favorite factory 69 Camaro color. Nice!

Besides all the obvious about this car, the 4 speed really makes it for me!
