I've certainly never heard of any similar stories. If the original owner had the car for 30 years and 30K miles of driving, and it was indeed an L78, you would think he would have had to adjust the lifters a few times. If he was the type of car owner who was truly clueless as to whether the car had solid or hydraulic lifters, you would not expect that type of owner to hang on to a car for that length of time. My guess is it's another case of people somewhere along the line never letting the facts get in the way of a good story
