I think 390- and 400-hp 1967 Vettes had the Powerglide as an option? Not till '69 was the auto available on higher-performance Vettes?

Yeah, that's all correct and that Powerglide even carried over into '68 where it was still available on the 390 HP and 400 HP 427 CID Corvettes. That 400 HP Tri-carbed engine may look pretty exotic and racey, but it was actually pretty tame with it's smooth-idle hydraulic cam (yuck!) and it's oval port heads. Kinda funny, but that engine has always reminded me of that snake that can rear up and spread it's back wide across just like a poisonous Cobra but in reality, it's just a harmless snake. Anyway, in '69, I guess they feel like they got that Turbo 400 developed enough to offer it in the high horse 435 cars and even the L-88's. Now there's the torture test!
