Default Camaro Proportioning Valve Autopsy

I just finished an article that describes how to disassemble the proportioning valve that was used on 1967 - 1969 Camaros equipped with disc brakes. The CRG describes the valve here:

http://www.camaros.org/suspen.shtml#valve

Here's a link to the article:

http://www.musclecarresearch.com/196...-valve-autopsy

I'd appreciate any insights, additions, or corrections to make the article more useful. Does anyone know the original part number? Was the valve used on any other vehicles? Is anybody interested in a seal kit to rebuild the valve?

Nice breakdown of the valve. I wish you would consider calling the valve "pressure regulating valve". It might go a long way in educating people on the correct name of both the round hold off valve and the frame mounted pressure valve.
I have had both valves apart before during restoration work. Fortunately I was able to clean and re use all the cup seals. The o ring gaskets are easy to find.
I think there is a need and a market for a correct and functional seal kit for both the Hold off valve and the Pressure regulating valve. I would bet some of the Camaro parts place's would like to offer them. You might even just offer them on ebay with a BIN price ? I think photos of the valve apart also would go along way in selling a kit.
I would gladly pay $30.00 or more for kits that are complete and correct.
Are you doing a breakdown of the round Hold off valve also ?
Great work and thanks for sharing.

Mike

I would also be interested in a seal kit. I wonder if any of the major seal mfgs like FNOK would be cost competitive with such low volumes.

I used both terms in my autopsy and new rebuild articles. I'm hoping that by using "proportioning" in the titles people will see which of the valves is really the proportioning valve. Here's a link to the rebuild article:

They're easy to find in the wrong material. The common Nitrile/Buna-N o-rings that you can get at your local auto parts stores are NOT compatible with glycol-based brake fluid. DOT-5 silicone-based fluid is a little different, but since EPDM rubber is compatible with both types it's what I use in my seal kits.

Thanks for the feedback, Mike. If I can get my hands on a metering/hold-off valve to take apart I'll see what I can do.

I just added a seal kit to the products I'm selling on my site. I'll post a link in the "parts for sale" forum. I think you'll like the price.

Nice article and detail - one item , not to be too picky....but if that valve in the picture (dated 157 of 68) came off a 69 yenko camaro (originally?) - i would think thats wayyyyyyy to early for a 69 yenko. Early yenko cars, the first 50 started in the nov of 69 range (i may not be accurate ) on this, so anyone pls help. You may want to drop that yenko thing and any 68 and 69 camaro with front disc had this installed.

Appreciate any experts and correction here to help Scott.

My mistake on the 1969 Yenko. The person that shared the valve and information with me said 1968 and I fat-fingered it.
