Default Re: '67 Vette question

I believe Rathmann Chevrolet in Melbourne, FL had a lease program set up to lease Corvettes to NASA astronauts for $1.00 per year for one year. Very few of these cars are known.
I’ve forwarded your post to Danny Reed of Austin, TX. Danny is a good friend that bought the Alan Bean 1969 Corvette in 1970 when the lease was up. This is probably the most well known of these astronaut Corvettes. The story of how he bought it in a closed bid auction in 1970 is a story in itself. Danny Reed knows more about these Corvettes than probably anyone else, he’s followed them for years.

The first thing your friend should do is join NCRS and order the shipping and delivery data on this car. It has to be a Rathmann Chevrolet delivery car to really go any further with the pursuit of it being an astronaut car. If you have a tank sticker, post the dealer and zone number and this group may be able to help out.

The ownership does help the value of these cars, Danny's car has been displayed at NASA in Houston many times over the years. He's a friend of many of the astronauts and he may know the past owner of your friends car.
