Not true. The 74 L82 had 202 screw in stud heads,O Rocker arms, steel crank, pink rods, forged pistons windage tray. Basically the same as a LT1 with a hydraulic cam cast intake and quadrajet carb. Non AC cars got the deep groove pulleys. The 73 and 74 L82 engines made 10 hp less that the 71 72 LT1.

This ^

There were stock 74 Z/28’s that would wipe the floor with many 60’s era muscle cars. Property tuned they were as fast as a low compression LT-1.

CARS magazine hi performance car of the year in 1974 for that reason.
