Big block vin stamping location

Hi, newbie here with my first post. Re my 69 Camaro L78. I have noticed most big blocks have the vehicles vin stamped on the Engine pad. Mine is stamped above the oil filter mount portion of the block. What dictated where the vin was stamped?
