Chick Renn and I inspected the car on Sunday. Very sad findings. It was pulled out of a field with a tree growing up through the engine compartment in the mid 70s. Then promptly rolled into a low spot behind a house where water gathered during rainy days. Sheetmetal is shot. Only drivetrain component that may be OE is the rear - but it's so badly corroded that no numbers are present. TT shows 02D built X33 car. Green, green, green. Owner says that he's going to "give it a paint job" someday". Not interested in selling it. Not receptive to assistance in simply getting it out of the hole that it's in. Says that he bought it from OO, but won't divulge his name.
Actually nice guy to talk to. We had lunch with he and his wife (super nice). Just delusional (IMO) regarding the car. Another one of those "someday" cars :-( Last edited by bergy; 05-10-2023 at 05:52 PM. Reason: Spelling |

Seems quite odd the guy would let you look at the car and then have no interest in trying to at least preserve it even if not for sale. Quite a shame. |

Short of any other evidence to the contrary, seems to be a triple green rusted out Z-28 body without drivetrain originally delivered to Baldwin Motor Co. Interesting someone put an "SS" emblem on rear tail panel given it was a Z-28.
Given present owner, unlikely more will be known in near term. |

What hood is on the car now?
Does he know where the original lived in 1969 ? |

Has stinger pressed fiberglass hood - not hand laid or chopped.. No manufacturer's markings. Support ribs like later A&A hoods. Hood is cut up & caved in. May have been placed over the opening later since the owner says that there was a tree growing up through the engine compartment when he purchased the car. He won't say where the OO lived - so ??

The paperwork that he has is a generic invoice with Baldwin Chevrolet stamped at the top. Not like the usual pre- printed Baldwin invoices. It’s dated in January of 1970 - 11 months after the 02B build date on the TT. There is no VIn on the invoice. He doesn’t have any Motion paperwork other then a Motion receipt from 1986 when he went there and bought some accessories. He says that the Motion” installed short block is in the car, but the assembly date is December of 1968 (13 months before the date on the Baldwin paper). Also, the engine code on the short block is for a full size L72 car. Not a CE block. Owner says someone stole the top end of the motor & left the short block. Ugh!
