Default Early COPO R and P question

Is this true.. ad on FB says all early COPOs used this dated gear… I never saw a 67 dated COPO gear

I have the exact same set up in my KQ rear in my Yenko Chevelle.

Really makes me wonder what GM was doing making parts two years prior to their intended usage.. but only the ring gear ?? Sounds like the did some serious testing on that one gear

Were they used in anything else prior to 69?

We start design and development about four years ahead of vehicle start of production.

This would be starting (component) production 2 years before the start of production.
I wonder if it was for another application.
