Chuck, I have many sources of information about the Delco-Remy distributor caps. In your case my information comes from my knowledge and a Camaro National Judge. Your question is answered in the Camaro Judging Manual.

Really like these pics.
Plug wires are an exact match a 3Q68 set of mine.

Have others also.
There are several different types of these but this is an exact match.

They will now go on her car and they are NOS.

Distributor from car

THANKS

IMHO this #2 post is the correct answer.
Post 12 backs it up

Stuff I posted is referencing a 69.
To finish the 69 story this is the cap that was on the dist pictured above.
No "R" as you can see.

The thread I linked started as a question about the originality of some parts that were removed to get car running after its long nap.
As you can see the cap was dismissed as replaced.
I bought the "R" one as it was supposed to be"correct".
Then conflicting info shows up later.

The no "R" cap is on car but we have the 'R" one [minus overspray" on the shelf.

Always looking for more clarity on stuff including this.

Pic 1 is the "R" cap we bought for it.
Pic 2 is the no "R" cap that was on dist.
Pic 3 is the coil that came with car
Pic 4 is date and purple ID paint on dist that came with car.

daveg I see your car is an early 1969 with a spark plug wire date of 3Q68. It is very possible that the distributor cap without the "R" is correct for your car. A lot of early 1969 cars had the "Patent Pending" non-R cap until the factory ran out of them.

Thanks for the reply.
The plug wires are not the ones that were with car.
Wires with car were replaced along with the Echlin points- condenser and 'E" rotor.

We got records with car but nothing about these items.
Hoses - clamps were changed also.
4/68 and 1/69 clamps have been a challenge.

We are trying to bring it back as far as possible.

I would think the cap is the factory one by date and condition, but some say nay.

Keeping everything that came with car just in case.
