Was more common in bracket than you might think. Saw this a number of times at North Star Drag Strip in the 70's. Break the race car, dial the tow vehicle in for mid 15's and get a 3 second head start. Drove the competition nuts sitting that long and a fair amount pulled an impatient red light.

Dad used to do that.

The 64 LeMans tow car had a 421 in it and was quicker than the 64 GTO race car.

If anybody gave him crap he would say "shoot – I can beat you with my tow car!" and then proceed to do it.

'68 GTO with a 400 was a good runner, too.


Just a few ticks off the NHRA record right out of the box.
