andrew,
just looked at my englishtown raceway calendar of events.its slowly turning into import/lowrider based shows.ive been to the super chevy shows at englishtown and have even won editors choice but they placed my biscayne in the street class because of the motion modifications.not good.they were not receptive in creating a dealer modified class even though there were quite a few of them in the show.judging is not important to me but grouping our cars together instead of body style is a step in the right direction. rich |

When we attended the SC show in Memphis right after we got our Camaro together ('97), they placed us in the "Conversion" class...the same class as the '94-6 Impalas, the then "new" SS Camaros, and Choo Choo Conversion trucks. There was another COPO Camaro there, and some real nice Chevelles, but none of them returned the next year.

Well I have to admit....the Choo Choo truck IS going a bit too far ! Maybe someone needs to have a talk with these folks to help them get back to their roots. What the hell is a Choo Choo truck anyway ?

We displayed a COPO and a 69 Yenko at Indy a few years ago. We felt that it would be a fun time being that they are always saying that this is the grandaddy of all SC shows. We had a ton of people enjoy the cars, but the SC staff ignored the cars and did not even judge the cars on Saturday. When we asked if they would judge the cars they sort of gave us the cold shoulder and sent a person over that could have cared less. We did not have any sofseal, diehard batterys, BFG's or Summit speed stuff on the cars and were not considered for anything. I do not care about trophys but we had cars that were competitive in that show. We received nothing that weekend. Gustin told us that he did not have an experienced staff to judge correct restorations. I felt that for the amount of money it costs to show at an SC event that qualified judges should be no problem. He told me that he could not afford it! Every other time we have shown a Yenko at SC we have been put in classes that are really not for us. Until Gustin changes his ways we will stay at home. I am sure nobody cares about this rant, but I will go were the real enthusiasts are. Clary is right. everytime a big show needs a shot in the arm they want the Super Cars. Ask the guys that were at Indy over ten years ago with the special Super Car display. I doubt if you will get a favorable response...BKH

"Choo Choo Customs" ( http://www.choochoocustoms.com/ ) was BIG into doig truck, van, and El Camino conversions, and also sell parts like spoilers, bed caps, running boards, etc. They used to have an ad towards the back of Super Chevy...it was really small, you had to look real close to see it.

I understand what Tom is trying to do but I have to agree with Brian. For years we had a Super Chevy Show at Raceway Park (Englishtown) and finally got rid of it. My boss said that many people were turned off by the formula cars (cars loaded with products that the SCS promotes). The show was always a loser financially for RP, and if it does not work 40 miles from NYC it makes you wonder a bit. P.S. I went to Indy last summer in July, WOW was it beyond hot!

Yes, we did win our class, conversion, but was told by the staff that our 1969 Yenko Camaro was not eligible for "Best Camaro", as our car was a Yenko, NOT a Camaro! Tom
P.S. I have not been to another SC event.

They put you in the same calss as a CHOO CHOO...That should have been an easy win..ALL they do is glue one or screw on wood.(using screws that stick an inch and a half too long)...Would have been a sad day for sure!
Dwayne P.s they are no longer in business. |
