Perhaps another historical perspective would help clarify the term "Supercar." (See attached photo.) This is an original 1967 ad (before COPO Camaros, etc.) for the then-new 427 Camaro conversions being performed by Motion and sold through Baldwin Chevrolet. I think it's safe to say that this is where the term "Supercar" has its roots, at least in terms of how it's used on this site. Motion used the term "Supercar" to differentiate their 427 conversions from the already "super" SS 396/375 cars available from the factory. Hey, why drive a "super" car when you can drive a "Supercar." Purely a marketing tactic that worked well in this case.

(Wasn't there a kids show in the '60s called "Supercar"? I seem to remember that. Any old f_rts remember that?)

Yes there was a puppet like show called Supercar. Had a guy that was called Dr. Beaker. I will be 50 in a few months, and I knew about the show. I guess I am officialy an "old fart" now. Damn.

I know the basis of this site are the COPO 427s, ZL1s, Yenkos, Bergers, Danas...etc. These are mostly 427s with an advertised HP rating of 425. Going by the HP rating alone, would the LS6 Chevelles and L88 Corvettes be concidered Supercars? These both had a higher advertised HP rating than the L72 cars.

In my opinion: HELL YES! Who among us would not consider an LS6 Chevelle a Supercar? An L88 Corvette not a Supercar??? Oh man, don't go there.

actually i agree with you and 427TJ, but the fact of the matter is, when people in this business refer to a "supercar" we all really know what that means.

Ok I get it ...not insulted at all I have a few Chevelles two of them with Big Blocks and one of those at well over 500 HP and I do drive them and feel great when I do Not because they have a Super car dealers name on it but because I built it myself .
I was just Curious at what The meaning of a Super car was ..and from what i get from it The meaning could be a COPO could be that 67 Camaro in the Baldwin Motion Add
Because thats how they advertised it.
but on this site it is the few, rare dealer prepped cars and that is ok by me. does'nt mean i can't stay and feel free to speak because we all do have the greatest main interests FAST CHEVY"S...and that is all that really matters to me
