Does that mean Rob can run aluminum heads in his factory stock drag racing? every pound counts! [/ QUOTE ] Not unless I can come up with something on paper that aluminum heads were available on the L-72 from Chevrolet! Over the years we've heard stories of several L-89/L-72 cars, and a couple other Francis cars are alleged to have gotten them besides ours. Would be nice... |

One of the things that suprise me the most is how previous owners memories fade from the 60's and 70's. The 18 yr old that bought my L-78 camaro new purchased it in his Dads name and after talking to him he insisted that the car had an M-20 in the car with the 4:56 rear! Another friend of mine had an L-78 (second owner) and insist today that the car was a ZL-1. I have never had any problem remembering the details of the cars I owned then, but some people are amazing!

I have noticed that cars tend get faster and faster as people remember them.

The rarity of the options goes up as well, as the years go by.

Actually this "story" was backed up by a couple of his friends, as well as by the second owner, and even someone who remembered racing the car during his college days.
The reason the original owner remembers the aluminum heads is the fiasco when he took the car back to Francis Chevrolet to get the damage repaired. Took a couple of months, and calls to Yenko and the Chevy zone rep to get the car fixed, under warranty. This ws quite common with warranty work on Yenko/COPO cars back then, especially Francis. Frank Radake, who bought his Yenko Chevelle from Francis, has told us a similar story. And, we have visited with a Yenko mechanic, Warren Dernoshek, about this. He said that they did put al. heads on a couple of the cars, but could not say which cars. Thus, even though we are confident that the car was sold new with al. heads, we have no documentation. And, this car has another unique feature, as it is Daytona Yellow and was sold new with white stripes. Only one known to have been built/sold.

Original owner of my Y Chevelle was a mechanic along with his father at V. V. Cooke the selling dealer....said it had an M22 and no headrest stickers....

[/ QUOTE ] Might be true, you never know unless you've got the docs from the factory. My L-72 COPO was ordered with an M-20 and 4:10s even though that wasn't supposed to be possible... Oh yeah, my car was bought by the father for the 18 year old son because he'd lost his license on a DWI.

Tom did the original owner have any vintage pics of your Camaro showing the white stripes? That would be a killer combo with the D Yellow paint!

Have you ever asked Jerry Luck about the heads? He told me he worked for Francis for a while back then.
