Steve, it is a RA V block with RA IV heads, and, according to Arlen Vanke, it is the motor the car was raced with. He also claims that it has the special "one off" intake manifold that Pontiac engineering gave to Knafel, presumably for testing. I know the stock RA IV was a great intake, and, I know we're tired of hearing about engineering "specials", but, I'm just relating what Arlen told me. His recollections of that time seem very sharp, but, take it for what it's worth. He built the engine in 1970, and, I had him rebuild it the same way in 2001. It will be interesting to hear it when we fire it up for the first time. In the for sale ad in Drag World in the Fall of '70, they claimed a best time of 11.61 @ 119, although the best official AHRA recored was 12.04 @ 114. Those were on slicks with open headers, but, still pretty fair for a big old Judge.

Micky will soon be taking the fenders to the painter who did the oiginal murals of the Indian riding the motor. Hopefully, his memory & the pictures we provide will help get the details close to those applied in 1970.

When Micky said he got the motor built, I instantly wondered who did build it. Thanks for answering that, and I can't think of anything better than Arlen doing it.

This is a VERY "special" car, don't be shy in talking about it.

Micky - Just curiosity, did the trans that was laying inside it have a "Trans by Bruce" tag on it?
Great work so far! - Brian

Mike/Micky or anyone else interested:

Just happened to catch on Ebay that there are 2 different auctions running for the 11/70 issue of Car Craft.

Auction# 6949155659 and 6948973316

I have that issue and there is about a 3 page article on the specs of the 70 with pictures, including one fairly clear picture of what under the hood looked like.

I attached a scan from my issue, but the actual magazine pictures are much clearer and very interesting reading.
