Default L89 Correct for replacement of L34? Changed Value?

I have an SSRS 396 less engine and trans. It has disc brakes, 12bolt re, 3/8 fuel line and BBC motor mounts along with a BBC Heater box. I dont know which motor came with the car. It looks bone stock. Can anyone tell me what #s on the axle would tell me what engine came with the car? And if I put in a L-89 motor with the right dates if that would help or hurt the value of the car? Michael

3/8 fuel line usually means high horse motor(L78) at least in the Nova world..rear axle ratio would be at least a 3.55 for the L78 motor..code is stamped on forward facing pass side of axle tube. you can use Colvin's book for info or post here for decoding. if you can get the L89 motor it sure would be cool! good luck.

Axle code (http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#RearAxleNumbers) will tell you some, but axle usage was not application specific.
