Thanks, Bruce - see you in sunny (No, no, not the liquid kind like last year) AZ in Jan. I became enamored with this car when I realized just how important it is to Chevrolet and muscle car history - it is the Father of all BB Chevrolets!!!! The first one! It is an awesome car and I can't take too much credit for it. I have corrected a few slight errors in the resto like replating the brake booster to the correct silver cad rather than gold, making and replacing the Optikleen label with the correct Kleer View, etc. This car has some incredible prototype and sample parts and great documented history that I've spent some real time researching. I've had a lot of fun playing with it and putting together a web site that, I think, shows it pretty well!

Russo and Steele has some pretty incredible cars!

James:
Just like this #1 car with no vinyl top?? That was this car - the second prototype is not known to exist. The vinyl top was correctly installed when Terry Gunter bought it. Floyd Garrett didn't want it when he had it restored even though it originally came with it.

Floyd has a tendency to do this and does not like vinyl tops. I restored his '67 SS427 Impala around 1980 with the original vinyl top. He bought the car and promptly re-restored it without the top, this on a 25,000 original mileage car and less then a year old restoration.

This car has a vinyl top. It belongs/belonged to Kevin Whittaker. He is a local Chevy dealer and had it on display in his showroom. It's not there now. I don't know if it was moved or if he sold it. One of his employees told me it was one of the test cars. I have never got a chance to talk to Mr Whittaker about it.

Boy that brings back a memory or two. I remember driving all the way to Wichita KS to look at one of these cars when they were still new on the showroom floor. It was a Yellow one.

Years later, I have to kick myself for not buying a yellow one here in Tulsa back in 1977 for $1400 from a bank repo lot. Perhaps it was the same car? Someone had put a SB in it and it was a little on the rough side but without the BB I passed on it. Dumb....! Dumb...!

Sigh..... Where is a time machine when you need one...?
