On a 3933198 Intake, is there suppose to be a 1 inch diameter hole in the casting just to the right of the thermostat location? I am looking at some terrible pictures of one that I might purchase and I can't figure out what this hole is for. I've also had these intakes in the past and I don't remember this hole. Am I just begining to show signs of dementia?

hey kevin, i am looking in the colvins book and it shows the intake with the j shaped thermostat housing installed which covers the boss in the coolant runner. it states it is the same as #3933163 intake except for plenium. that intake was used as early as 1966. it might be the boss or drilled hole for temp sending unit if early heads were used that did not have sender hole in them. dennis

Kevin,
Does this help? I made this comparison picture a few years ago. Ed ![]()
