Very cool car.. they should pull the plugs and spray some Marvel Mystery Oil in the cylinders and let it soak a bit before they try and turn the motor over. And maybe even spray the motor down if they are just going to let it sit like that

442w30, I saw that RG SS near Westchester County Airport on King Street last Friday evening. Sounded healthy! [/ QUOTE ] Sorry to hi-jack here... I think that RG '69 is an all original SSL78 car. Steel wheel/poverty caps and a 4spd. I believe its got chambered exhaust but I cannot remember for sure. Last I saw it was about 2.5 yrs back

it is not a small block car... look closer at the engine pic. The heater core is BB. [/ QUOTE ] So is the fan shroud. |

"Oh, and he pulled the brand new 350 and dropped in a 427."
This quote is from the posting on the Ford board. (See the link on the original post.) If you swap a big block for a 350, you would need to increase the size of the radiator, or face overheating. The BBC core and shroud were included with the 427, IMO. ![]()

If that 427 was put in back in 1967-68 then converting to a BB heater core and cover would indicate an impressive attention to detail. Today, the first thing cloners do is put in the BB heater box but in those days nobody cared.
The following three early BB dealer conversion Camaros were performed on 350 cars and the SB heater boxes were left in place. Here's a pic of the first Dana Camaro, converted from an SS 350. Note the SB heater hose routing and the SB shroud. ![]() Here's the first Nickey conversion, overseen by Dick Harrell, and it too has its SS 350 SB fan shroud. ![]() Third is this Nickey/Bill Thomas conversion, possibly the first BT conversion, and it has a SB heater box. Note that it has what looks like a factory BB fan shroud. Hmmm. ![]() Granted, these early dealer conversions were done before the SS 396 was avaialable so they had to stay with SB heater cores and shrouds but even when the 396 Camaro was in production I'd be suprised if street racers converted their SB heater boxes to BB units when the Rat went in. Can't wait to hear more about this car. |

Looks like it could be an L-78 or an L-72, maybe swapped from a factory application into this Camaro. Seems odd that a shadetree engine swap car would have an all steel fuel line from the pump to the carb, looks like an idle solenoid on the throttle linkage, factory temp sender in the head, even looks like Packard plug wires still on it. Seems almost too neat to have been a simple crate engine install. Wonder what dealership sold it new? Did those add on sport type mirrors even exist in '68? It might have been painted a little further down the road.

Car's been repainted. Look at the hood hinges.
As this is a 67, the cowl tag should answer all the questions, no? |
