I remember quite a bit of that.

Any Chicago guys remember going to your friends house as kids, and instead of knocking on the door, we would yell out " YO (insert name here)"

OMG.....I thought that was only us goofs in Niles !!! We would just go in the driveway and yell that ....we never knocked on the door !!!!! I can't believe the memories you just brought out...wow ! PJ Hoff used to draw stuff as he did the weather...how about Len O'Connor and ole Floyd Kalber...damn...times flying

How about the Penny Candy stores? Did you guys have one in your neighborhood too? Or was that a thing that was everywhere?
We'd turn in pop bottles for a small amount of change and go get a whole bag of candy for it. Wax Lips, Dots on rolls of paper, some sort of sweet liquid in a wax tube, can't remember what some of it was called.

We had a Ben Franklin store in Palatine...the owner was a captain in the volunteer fire dept...and died trying to save his own store...

I, too, remember Floyd Kalber (sp?)

Yeah, we had all that stuff too. How about Lik-em-Aid (Ade?) Chum Gum and Penny Logs?

Some of the old stuff is still around under a different name. there used to be a candy bar called Forever Yours. Now it's Milky Way Dark.

Pretty funny how we all pretty much shared the same TV broadcast memories, regardless of where we were located.. Chicagos Finest Newsmen

With me,it was the Ardmore Pharmacy or Al's Smoke Shop in Villa Park.
Those two were candy central all through the 1960's & 70's..Bit-O-Honey,Bottle caps,Sugar Babies and Mr.Freezes etc.If the Blue haired old lady was working the pharmacy counter, you straigtened up & made sure you smiled to get a free pixie stick or sometimes a Balsa wood rubberband propelled airplane. If the beatnick teen with oily hair and soul patch was working at Al's,you could pretty much count on a free candy cigarette w/purchase.
Click HERE to obtain some of those sugar memories today.

Bummer, they discontinued Beeman's gum in the list of sugar memories.

I'm sure I just saw some Beeman's at a checkout within the past few days. Maybe it's just certain packaging that was discontinued.
Looks like Teaberry is still available though.
