Why would someone clone one back in 83? And especially look that correct under the hood!

Seems to me that I recall this being a real COPO. Not much faking going on back then because they prices weren't through the roof. Besides, most people didn't even know what a COPO was back then. Up until about 5 years ago, people were still arguing about what COPO meant.

I remeber seeing that name Jay Nixon before in the magazines back then. I think he may have had a very nice black 1969 Chevelle as well.
I also think it may have been before the clone builders got involved so I would bet that this car was real.

-------Thats a name Id forgotten, but a very nice guy. It seems to me that Jay had a burnished brown 69 COPO Chevelle quite a ways back. I do remember it being a very unusual Velle. Maybe an L89??? I know it was brown as we were parked a couple of cars apart at an outside show.........Bill S

Jay is now in Socal and doing fine. Most parts places know him well because he owns "Details". He was probably the first guy selling the front end bolt kits etc to all the dealers. The red red 69 Z28 I had used to be Jay's. One of the good guys.
