Now this guy is getting more flaky on me.

He posts negative feedback on Ebay, then resends the payment and says he will keep the part to resell for a profit (I'm fine with that), and now he's suddenly opened up a PayPal dispute saying the part didn't match the description and is demanding a refund.

Any suggestions on how to deal with someone like this?

make sure you have no dough in the paypal account, have heard many people have there cash snatched..then he gets the part and gets paid twice, before you sort it out...present a copy of the refund check to paypal to the knob from you and you should be fine, wont due much but see if ebay will ban him.

If you take all of your money out of paypal, they will go into your bank account and take it out. Read your pay pal contract....

Save all your correspondences with him for evidence. The guy is trying a scam. Go into your paypal and delete your bank account asap. If there is no attached bank account, they cant debit it. I use paypal but only for paying via a credit card. That way I always have a last resort of disputing through my credit card company.

He is trying to get a double refund. It wasn't a personal check was it? if so it probably has a stop payment on it already that wont hit your bank for another 2 weeks. I would imagine he didnt send it certified mail with proof of delivery. I would tell paypal you never received his alleged 2d payment, since it's probably a bad check anyway.

The simple solution to the problem is DONT TAKE PAYPAL....Any time you use a form of payment that allows someone to have your part and stop payment after the fact you are looking for trouble. There are some people that are professionals at using paypal to renegotiate after the item was received, even if the item was described honestly. And NEVER have any money in your bank account if you do choose to use paypal... A nice trick paypal is using in trying to trick buyers into pay with thier bank accounts instead of CC,[as paypal loses 3% themselves on CC payments],is using all kinds of misplaced words and highlighted boxes to get you shammed into using the funds from your bank account. Then they clearly state they wont reverse any transaction if it was made by mistake. I guess making 2,000,000,000 dollars a day isnt profitable enough for them. If you ever have a problem as a buyer with paypal, dont call them, call you CC companyt and freeze the money. paypal wants you to contact them first so THEY can go retrieve the money from the sellers bank account before the CC company goes into paypals funds....what a world Im sure one thing paypal is working on is how to stop being trumped by the CC companies.

That pretty much sums it up right there, Chuck is dead-on. I won't touch PayPal with a 10' pole, never have, never will. Sometimes it's difficult...I miss out on some nice stuff on eBay now & then because a seller will only take PayPal (which is a monopoly IMO, but that's a rant for another time), but I simply refuse to play into their deal.
