Fellas, I have a 2006 Ford F150 truck that is a lease and the lease is done in August of this year.. Just recently I observed a very small hairline crack in the front windshield which spread and now covers about 3/4 of same. I know that the Ford dealer is a stickler for the windshield conditions on returns. Is there any fix for this that is not costly or will I have to bite the bullet and replace the windshield which I heard is costly, neighborhood of $500.00??
Anybody have any advice.. I don't think the dealership will cover this and I really don't want to make an insurance claim.. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated... It may turn into a pay me now or pay me later ordeal!! Thanks Rich.......... ![]()

Dang tht sounds real expensive. Around here HOUSTON TEXAS you get a new windshield installed for $100.00 all day long and for $125.00 they will come to where you are to put it in.

Start calling around to some windshield glass places and tell them that you are doing it out of pocket. The price for glass can be considerably cheaper.
As for your windshield, how many of you know that it is vital to have your windshield intact and free of cracks for your airbags to work correctly? Everyday, one of the checks in the plant is to insure that enough paint film is in the windshild flange!!!! ![]() ![]()

Check your insurance policy, I need a new windshield every two or three years, last year I got one on both vehicles and they haven't dumped me.

Ditto on checking with your insurance company -- Don't know about Ohio, but here in Florida windshield replacement by law is exempt from a deductable. One company even gives YOU $25 (and another a box of steaks) if you use them for the windshield replacement under insurance coverage.
Good luck, BCD. |

The last times I had any glass replaced in a vehicle(2 times on my current truck) it didn't cost me anything. Insurance companys will usually replace any glass at no cost to you 1 or 2 times a year if necessary.

Be careful when calling your Insurance Co. and try and find out what your deductible amount is without telling them you need a glass...some will penisize you by taking away your no claims discount if you do it or not!.
If your dedictible is high, do as mentioned above and tell the glass guys you're doing the paying...also be clear you won't be taking the free nylons or BBQ's or whatever other incentives they may have.. I just checked w/ my glass guy here and an aftermarket one is $250 installed including the molding and kit for a light tint unit.. Add $25 for upper shading and add another $100 for the factory job w/ Ford or Harley edition logo etc.. ~ Pete ![]()
