Verne, I kinda lean towards keeping the Blue car a 380 HP 1 X 4 BBL. You already have your dual quad car with the Black convertible. I'm sure that I'm not telling you anything you don't already know, but those true '62 380 HP cars are rare. Most people went straight for the dual quads on the option sheet. Then you'd have an A/Stocker and a B/Stocker if we were still in '62! About 12 years ago, behind a barn believe it or not, I looked at a real '62 plain Impala that was a silver/with blue interior 409/380 car. It was used up as a parts car to restore another Black '62 Super Sport which was a 409 car itself actually, but I often wonder if it's still there!

Mark,
Perhaps you should go back and at least see if the 380 air cleaner got saved. They're impossible to find.
I've documented many legit '62 409 blocks and believe it or not, about half of them are QAs. But today it's very rare to find a restored 380 car. It seems like today's hobby dictates that a 409 HAS to have 2x4s to get any respect. It's funny, but I guess it was the same way back then. The owner's father (who bought the car for him) wouldn't allow him to get the 2x4s and he got teased a lot that he didn't really have a 409 - he had a 380! So, without his father knowing, he took it to a different dealer in So. Jersey for the conversion.

VERY NICE cars Verne... I am jealous, the BLK over Red Ragtop has the patina I love, the Blue one looks nice enough to eat off the floors...

Its the same story with Ford Q (410hp 4bbl) and R code(425hp 2x4bbl) 427's in '63/'64 Galaxies. Also '62/'63 B (385hp 4bbl) and G code (405hp 3x2bbl) cars. Single carbs just don't get any respect from folks when they expect multi carb setups on these cars. So owners/sellers often put the multi carb setups on. One thing is that most of these "special" multicarb intakes all got saved and put on shelves, even after the cars were blown up, wrecked or rusted away. Multi carb setups were cool enough to hang onto, while factory single 4bbl intakes weren't so lucky, no matter how good they worked.

The only thing sadder is all of the '70 SS396 Chevelles that get SS454 emblems because of the cubic inch envy of their owners.....

Thanks James, Actually I have to pinch myself sometimes when I think about the blue car. Rust free, complete original driveline (sans the 380 stuff) and full docs. I can't wait to get it back on the road. Health issues are unfortunately slowing the progress a lot.
