I've used a Mallory Unilite unit for ~ 8 years and have never had a problem. Not the cheapest, but it has been trouble free - knock on wood!

MSD makes a nice HEI distributor that you can install an original Delco old points style cap on and it looks almost like stock with the exception of the billet finish on the shaft...

Some good ideas listed here and some not so. I think the best deal going would be the new Pertronix III and matching Flamethrower III. The unit fits inside an older style small points distributor and has an adjustable rev-limiter and multi-spark function. It eliminates points and it's also like having an MSD box inside your distributor! Then you can also buy the MSD small cap that has the HEI-type terminals on top so you wouldn't need to change your plug wires.
