My engine builder went to the first street car race with his PA street legal camaro, glass windshields no big ugly hood scoop with a small block running 7s. Was not allowed to run because his car was to light.

I have to correct my prior post. Bruce Kimmens had the black with flames 69 Camaro that was blown and injected. They both ran out of the CARS stable. I don't know if Rick raced anything in the NMCA after the 62 Bel Air. I don't believe Spiro Pappas ever sold his original 69 Camaro. That car dominated Super Street for several years and nobody could touch it. He was out of racing for a few years then he came back with a turbo on the car. He then built a new 69 Camaro that looked like his old one, but had an updated chassis. I saw it at Joliet one time when they were working the bugs out. I think he wrecked the new car and then brought out the old car and wrecked it as well. I don't remember if either car was repaired or not. I haven't heard of him racing anything in awhile.

Spiro has been on a bad downward spiral for the last couple years. Too bad he started ripping off a bunch of vender's for stuff! I got this info from a certain cylinder head guy whom is still owed for a couple sets of Ti valves he needed in a hurry.
As for his cars, about a years ago I heard he still had his original 10.5 SS Camaro that was turned into a single turbo. He kept it and when and bought "HOWDY'S" skinny kid built '69 Camaro that raced ALL MOTOR in Milan. Car was painted to match the original '69 black and yellow.

Hell it got so bad on yellow bullet that when someone got ripped of, they said he got SPIRO'D

Tom, was your 65 Corvette coupe black? I think I saw it at several Super Chevy events in the late 90's.[/quote]

Yes, a Black 65 Coupe late in it ran a Eddie Quay Pro Stock Chassis, 632 Sonny's, Lenco 4 Speed, it ran as good as 7.11 , 200. at legal race weight ,3500 w/ driver. This was the Close/Martin entry tuned, crew chiefed & driven by Joe Martin.

The black Camaro that ate the wall a few years back was an ex - Spiro car. Was it the original or the second one?

Spiro brought his original car back out in 06 with a single turbo engine. It was still an all steel car except the hood. We wrecked it and repaired it with some upgrades including a fiberglass frontend. He went on to win the Super Street Championship in 2008 with that car. He was running 6.70's at 210+ with it. As far as I know he still has this car. Towards the end of 08 he brought out the twin turbo car built by Skinny Kid. He wrecked that car at the first 09 NMCA Race at Bradenton. He hit both wall and the car caught fire. I don't know what happened to that car or if it was repaired. He brought out a new GXP later in 09 that he raced in the ADRL Extreme 10.5 class. He raced that car through the 10 season. That car was painted black with yellow stripes to match his Camaro's. I don't know what happened to that car either. The black with flames blown and injected 69 Camaro raced by Bruce Kimmens was wrecked back in the late 90's. That car to my knowledge was built for Bruce and never owned by Spiro Pappas.
