Default 69 Chevelle SS Tail Panel Paint

I've seen a lot of '69 Chevelles over the years and most SS cars have the blacked out tail panel between the trim pieces, but a few have the black going up into the trunk lip area like a Camaro. Does anyone know which is correct or does it have to do with which plant produced the Chevelle. I'm pretty sure someone here has the answer to a question I've wondered about for years.
If some of you have an original paint Chevelle, I would like to see a picture of this area.
