This has got to be one of the nicest 68 GTO Convertibles in Existence... This restored car drives as well today as the day it left the dealer (Phil Bachman Pontiac-Cad Inc in Greeneville, TN) in 1968. This would be a "Top Shelf" car in any Pontiac enthusiasts collection. This car has tons of Original patina that cannot be reproduced ever again...
This GTO is mostly a extremely well-kep survivor and appears as a restored car, but in fact it is not... Numbers Matching with 51k Original Miles, however as with most 40+ year old cars, the mileage is undocumented, but the cars condition speaks for itself ten fold...Whether it is Driver Quality that you want, or Show Quality that you want!!!
The Solar Red Paint is almost perfect as is free of any major defects... While not the Original Color, the change was done properly and jammed in and blown in where necesary and appears as a factory Solar Red car... It has ALL the Original Sheet Metal, Floors, Quarters, Endura Bumper and even the chrome on rear bumper is original. The moldings, emblems and weatherstrip and all other chrome/stainless are original and free of any dents or major flaws...
The interior is mostly original and in excellent shape right down to the famed "his and hers" shifter... All gauges, switches, etc. are working properly.
The 400ci engine and M40 Turbo 400 transmission are in excellent "drive every day" condition... They both appear to have never been apart, the trans still has the Hydromatic tag on the side. The carb. and distributor (HEI) have been changed at some point to keep the car reliable enough to drive when you want to...Still has most of the original paint/finishes on most of the underhood components including the air cleaner itself and chrome lid...The "WG" 3.36 rear axle is also original... Mechanically, the car drives out great (even with bias ply's). It idles smooth (stock) and does not overheat or have any other problems associated with driving a 40 year old car daily...This car promises lots of worry-free warm summer night cruising with the top down!!!
The undercarriage still has the original semi-gloss Black EDP primer applied to the underbody at GM in 1968...Only the frame, rear axle and other suspension components were detailed back to concours condition...Many of the original inspection marks were still visible, and replicated...No Books or restoration guides needed...Still has most of its original exhaust even. Only the mufflers were changed out to Flowmasters (for sound) but still retains it original hangers! A new gas tank was installed and "US steel" logo re-applied in the exact position as the original one (which was still visible) I also recovered a perfect condition build sheet that was still on top of the Original Tank! The driveshaft was preserved and its original stripes are still visible...Great lengths were taken to assure originality of this car and it shows. Any Pontiac purist would fall in love with this car.
As with any top shelf car these days, pulletproof documentation is a MUST... This car still retains its ORIGINAL window sticker (not a repro from PHS), and a fully ledgable buildsheet just recovered on top of tank in 2008. So what more would you need? This is one of the finest GTO's available today...
