Best Restoration Primers and Paints
I am currently restoring my 69 L78 Nova. It was a former drag car and required quite a bit of work getting the hacked up wheel wells and frame rails back to factory specifications. I am currently stripping the underneath of the car (long and painful process) and will be looking to prime and paint here soon. I got some advice from a bodyman to use an acid-etching primer for the entire car, followed by an acrylic primer for body panels and then your base coat/clear coat. I am wondering what is good to paint the underneath of the car before the undercoating?? I am planning on taking it down to bare metal, acid etching priming, ????, then undercoating.
I also blasted the subframe and rear end and painted their bare metal with Eastwoods Chassis Black. It dried nice and has stayed nice in the garage for two (2) plus years, but I am afraid what will happen if I get caught in some rain or something in the car down the road. I blasted and painted the trailor hitch on my Chevy truck less than a year ago and it is already rusted and looks like crap. Has anyone else used much of Eastwoods products? What paint would be good for my brackets, pulleys, mounts, etc? Also where can I get some good paint products to finish the restoration? Any input would be sweet. Thanks
