Default Meadow Brook Concours

Word of caution.

If you happen to be contacted by the Meadowbrook Concours to display a car, be forewarned they are lacking in communication skills.

In February I was told they wanted to feature a few drag race cars, and asked if I would bring Red Alert, automatically accepted if I committed. Being it was the same weekend as the Gibb show, which was already on my schedule, I told them would see what I could work out. With LaHrape somewhat between Alton and Michigan, I told them I would be there, leaving LaHarpe Saturday PM and have RA there Sunday AM for their event.

As of Monday I had not received anything from MB, so I thought I would do some checking. Calls and emails direct to MB went unreturned, but I was able to speak to the person who first contacted me (another car owner), who said they had decided, “to go in another direction”, thus RA was not accepted. He went on to say this decision was made three-four weeks ago. Geez…I was they had let me know before everyone here rearranged their schedules. Sure makes you appreciate Bob A., Colin, BKH and others who do the necessary legwork when putting together displays.

The good news is..Diana and I can spend more time with friends in LaHarpe.

This is indeed an incredible turn of events.

I sure hope that the "car owner" who invited you didn't decide to "go in another direction" because of other relationships...

This just plain sucks.

Was that "car owner" Chastity Bono? I heard she/he had a recent announcement concerning going in a different direction...

Tom, I know someone helping assemble the cars. While he's not responsible for the musclecar class, I've let him know this issue so he can pass it along to the appropriate person.

I've been to this show in the past, and I've helped write the descriptions for the musclecar class in recent years, so I just wanted you to know this because I don't want this event to put a bad taste in someone's mouth if they get approached in future years.

It would be nice to hear from whoever is in charge, as this morning I got an email from another member of this site who said he spoke with someone connected with the drag car class at MB and RA was supposed to be there.

Unfortunately, I can't tell you anything else. I am pretty sure organizing the show is done after work hours for most of the people, so it all depends on how responsible the respective person is. My contact just had a grandchild, but he said "Sounds like a big oops on the Red Alert...don’t know the details...thanks for the link, though." I'm assuming there's a ph# to call?

Got a call from the head of the selection committee for Meadow Brook who was able to explain things. Seems it was just a case of he and some of his committee members not communicating as well as they should have. As the head of the committee he said all final decisions, good or bad, were his, and that he would take full responsibility for how things were handled. I respect him for that.

Being a fan of drag racing, especially cars from the ‘60s and ‘70s, he extended a personal invitation for me to have RA at the event.

I was at Meadowbrook last year and while it is mostly full of Auburns, Cords, Deusenbergs there was a section of significant muscle cars, drag cars & factory lightweights. My personal highlight was the Sox Sinclair Service '63 Z-11 Impala. When that thing fired up and rolled past the judging stand I almost has tears in my eyes. Red Alert will be a very nice addition to the show. I look forward to seeing you there.
