Default Does gas evaporate from your tank on hot days??

Ok, so I just got back from Colombia (S America)...and while there, a buddy of mine mentioned that he only puts a little gas in his tank of his car at a time because it evaporates when it is too hot. I kinda blew off the comment as another tale from the jungles of Colombia. (For example, they say that if you put any food in the refrigerator while it is still hot, not only will it ruin the food, but it will also ruin the refrigerator)...anyway, a few days later, I was with another friend and I asked why they cover part of the motorcycles with carboard when they are parked...He responded that they cover the gas tanks because the gas vaporizes when it is real hot....soooo??????????

Any possibility this is true?? Arent the tanks designed to not allow this to happen? It really has me thinking, because I know some Camaro SS's have the vapor return lines..what was the purpose for that anyway?

Is this possible? Since traveling a lot to S America, I have heard many many "old wives tales" and remedies..you would not believe...As it turns out a few have been true...

just curious....Thanks, Max
