Default Colonial Beach Drag Strip

Does anyone know when Colonial Beach Drag Strip in Colonial Beach, Virginia first opened. I know now it is a 1/8 mile track. I was just curious if it existed in the late sixties/early seventies and was it once a 1/4 mile track..

Thanks... Rich

Thanks Scott.. I was just curious about the strip.. I have a 69 Chevelle SS 396 rag top car that was sold new out of Colonial Chevy in Norfolk, VA. and was just curious about drag strips in the Virginia area that would have been around back in the day..

i know richmond dragway opened in 1964. i think there was a dragstip( abandoned airstrip ) in the norfolk area. now closed. colonial beach is quite a ways away from norfolk and the old colonial dealership. its on the eastern shore close to maryland.

We used to make the trip to Suffolk Virginia in the late 60's/early 70's when it got too cold to race in the northern Indiana area. They had a 1/4 mile dragstrip there set up on an unused runway of an Air Force property. That strip had lots more bite than the asphalt dragstrips that were common at the time in our local area.

Suffolk Dragway! The home of the "Little Guy National Open" I believe an all concrete drag strip. Went there a few times myself for that meet.

Colonial Beach was quarter mile when we raced there in the early to mid 1970's. Tood Mack used to own it, and MIR too.

? The track would have to be twice as long to run 1/4. theres not enough room that i can see. it would run across the main road and through a brick rancher that looks to have been built in the 50s?

We ran F/MP there. I will look for time cards, was quarter mile for sure. It was Todd Mack who owned the track back then. I wrote a type-o last post.
