Hello, i have just purchased a 1969 camaro, i dont know much about chevys, i collect mopar & ford factory lightweights. the car was manufactured in nov 1968, the motor matches the vin. the owner said he bought it new then wrecked the car in 1970.the block is a 260 casting not a 512. the rear end is a BV not a BE. the original owner said that he order a DT code rear for the car but it came in 2 weeks after delivery. the car is still wrecked please help me decode if possiable . thanks

Yes thats whats i have heard, but the car has big fuel line and a cowl hood, the owner told me that the car didnt arrive to the dealership until jan 1969 because of shortage of hoods, it has disc brakes, and heavy suspension, but it should have a BE rearend not a BV the rearend was built oct 1968, i am just lost dont want to build the if it aint special. i have fedex picking up the car next week. thanks

It could not be a COPO.
The first COPO Camaro was ZL-1 #1 built December 30, 1968 and delivered to Fred Gibb Chev the next day along with #2. Getting these cars built and delivered ahead of schedule required the intervention of the General Manager of Chevrolet Pete Estes. His name is shown on the Body Broadcast sheets for these cars. They are also the earliest cars known to have been built with the special ducted hood. Dealers did not receieve ordering info until early November. The first L-72 COPO Camaros were built 01B. There is no '260' casting 427. The '270' casting was only used for a short time late in '68 in Corvettes and B-body.

You are right about the casting numbers i made a clerical mistake the casting on the block is 3955270, and the deck does match the car. if its not a copo then what is it. i am not a expert on chevy, i was going to buy a copo at a estate sell recently, but my business got to busy to leave. i bought this that it could be or not be a real car. thats why i am asking for advice.

If it is a factory BB car it could be a 375/396 SS, well worth a restoration.

Yes you are correct, but the car has 5833 miles on it, and the engine pad matches the vin, but the casting numbers on the block are a 427 one guy has told me. the car has bow tie on front and back. No spoiler and no options and its dark green with light green interior. its a ugly car .
