I would like to start by saying I am no expert and cannot verify any of the following information with paperwork or documentation as it was not provided to me with my purchase. The goal of posting this information is to tap into the knowledge of the experts in the industry as this motor is a potential piece of musclecar history, the hobby I love.
Tonight I purchased what is believed to be an origninal 36,000 mile Baldwin Motion built 454 LS6 motor. It was purchased from the son of the original owner who lived down the street from Baldwin. The car was rear ended and totaled years ago. The original owner held onto the motor for years and has since passed away, which his son sold the motor. The block has never been decked and still has the factory hone marks on the inside cylinder walls along with perfect standard bore. The original broach marks and straight grain across the deck. The crank is perfect standard forged with no numbers. Original dimple rods and TRW pistons. The camshaft has no numbers I can find. Also came with the windage tray, oil pan and timing cover. Any help in sharing information about what I have would be appreciated in advance. Thanks Here is what I have for numbers and pictures Engine Casting #3963512 Casting date F-25-70 Pad Stamp - CE152653 (the 6 may be a 5) Intake - Offenhauser 360 with dual quad Carter AFB carbs Crank - Chevy forged with no visible numbers Heads - 3946077 chevy aluminum date code 69 Rods - Chevy dimple Pistons - GM 3963550 You can email me directly if you prefer at [email protected] Thanks ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

there are motion experts here, which I am not..that being said, I beleve what you have is exactly what you say you have. a 512 block, 077 heads, etc. The Motion part of the equation is really cool if true, but proving it without having the original paperwork from the car it came out of will be rather difficult. Still a really cool motor for a street car. And probably a valuable block for someone looking for a dated CE block. I say find a nice late 60's early 70's chevy and build a car around it!!!

I know by 1970 BM were putting thier own stamp on some, if not all, the motors they built or installed in cars. I have seen the stamp personally. I am sure some of the BM experts here on the site can give you better details, repost this in the BM section. Thx

If you could tell me the sellers name and what kind of car it was in, I am in touch with several people who still live "down the street" from Motion.
PM if you prefer. ![]() |

FYI The carbs are way late model units, the 077 weren't made in 69. Jim

This thread is being moved to the Baldwin section as I am seeking information from a Baldwin Motion "expert". The story just got much much much better.
