I stumbled on a 66 427 coded IP bare block and has a VIN on it...does anyone know where to post it to help find the owner of the car...im not interested in doing anything to it, its a close friend, and he thought it was a 75 454 truck..id like to try to unite it with the car, instead of it going in a race car etc...i dont know where to go , or what to really do with it...its a very early block..like cast in August of 65...
i have the complete pad info, and its never been decked or screwed with..i dont know if i should just put the numbers out there or what... opinions on what to do with it would be appreciated...i was thinking about doing a VIN search to see if the car was still around, but im not a corvette guy, and dont mislead anyone here...i just dont know if i should just put it on ebay and let it ride or what...id like to try to do the right thing and if the car is alive, get it back in there...

Have you tried Googling the complete VIN possibilities w/ Coupe and Roadster viariations added to the stamped sequential six?.
If no results get the two VIN possibiles posted here or somewhere online so if the car exists and someone searches their Vin they may find it!. If the car can't be found, the block's probably worth most to a '66 L72 'Vette guy that needs a motor and would prefer an original casting/suffix correct block in his car and doesn't want to play the restamped 'restoration motor' game.. ![]() ~ Pete -------------------- I like real cars best...especially the REAL real ones! |

Strange, I am doing the same thing with a IP block I have. I found the owner of the Corvette in Australia by doing a VIN search via google as mentioned above.

A few years back when I hung the rods out of the engine in my race car,I took a spare block to the machine shop to get it ready. It is a 1965 dated 427,but is only a 2 bolt. After the machine shop guy was done he said to me I should have sold it and I could have bought a new Dart block with the money I would have gotten.I paid $250 for it from another machine shop that thought it was a 396 because it had the canister style filter. It had the corner of the block where the starter bolted on broken off about to the top of where the knurl on the bolt ended,he Ni Rod welded it and it looks like new.Maybe I will sell it rather then freshen it.I have a 10/10 6223 crank in it,and a set of brand new dimple rods on the shelf.I shouldbe able to make a good package out of it for somebody.

maybe you should start a for sale thread instead of stepping on this one??

There's a guy local to me that has an original 66 427 Vette missing it's original 425hp engine.
Would you PM me the VIN stamp? |

Well since the engine is in my race car running right now and I have no plans on pulling it out for at least another year or two,it really isnt a for sale deal.I was just stating that very early 427 blocks are almost always worth something to the right person,so rather then just throw it in your car because you couldn't find any other block to use is a good way to loose out on a potential profit, and you wont get the warm fuzzy feeling of reuniting a rare car with a rare engine.
