Default Liquid Tire Chain

I've been a mechanic for almost 30 years and I thought I knew it all (just kidding, most of us wrenches THINK we know it all) and I've been reading on the site about a liquid tire chain option. I've never heard of this, can someone please explain how this works??

It was pretty unique for it's time.
This very limited traction option was listed as RPO V75-Traction compound and Dispenser cost $23.20.
They installed it in 278 vehicles during 1969,188 of those were in Camaros.
A button is depressed by the driver that allows manifold vacuum to be rerouted to a spring loaded cannister or two mounted in the trunk, behind the rear wheel(s).Inside those cannisters was a single aerosol can of liquid ether,(ice melter),that dispensed into the tire tread while spinning and was supposed to help melt away any gripping ice/snow.

Here's some close up pics of the option I posted awhile ago..

Didn't the Burnished Brown COPO found last year have that option?

Yep - but don't thinks it was filled with liquid ether!

My car is still in restoration, but the liquid tire chain is installed. I'll try to post pics later today.

You're right galveston,I edited that wrong after a long day.
That should read,278 Chevelles,188 Camaros & 2086 Impala series were equipped with Liquid tire chain from the factory during 1969.
Although that's a page from the 1970 Chevelle/Elco/Monte C. assembly manual I posted, they cancelled it's assembly line availablity before that model year started.
It was still possible as an accessory OTC.
