Hey

Can anyone relay what an original ZL1 block with winters marks and ZL1 open D port Alum heads are going for these days?

These days??? Not what they used to go for back in 'the days'..hehe..

But seriously alot depends on exactly what block you have. Many different blocks were produced back then. The most valuable being a production block with an early date.

The same goes for the heads. Dates and condition are everything!!

Post a few pics here or you can send a few pics to my email and I will post [email protected]. And with more info., I am sure those here will give you an idea and help out.

Yeah..I hear ya.. Lots of tire kickers too.. I was going to and still might clone a Camero or Chevelle but I am putting together price tags for all my &quot;junk&quot; just in case I kick the bucket.. The wife wouldn't have any clue on what anything is worth these days and after burying my brother last month..that wasn't cheap by any means.. My junk could help in expenses ...not that I am dieing or anything....
There isn't a vin stamped on the block but there are some stampings on the pad above the timming cover.. Someone once told me that they were markings for a 4 spd Vette application..?? I dunno

I think the heads might be off my other motor that I used ..I recall the ZL1 heads had a different part number and round exhaust ports.. They are hiding somewhere around here..

Neat parts! The 077's are later over the counter heads. The round port 074's were installed onto the ZL1 block. Your block is coded 1969 Corvette ZL1. Is there a vin stamp down by the oil filter location?

Yes, your block is one of the complete motors that GM assembled and except for a very few, never ended up in any cars. Many years ago the first time I found one of these blocks with the stamping on the front pad, I thought for sure I hit the motherload and found one of the 'two'(or three..or seven??) original ZL-1 Vette blocks. Upon calling Ed C. I found out the truth.
Your block is worth all the money to a guy with a correct dated ZL-1 Car...but I believe it would have to be one of the later cars..as the original block from ZL-1 #34 is dated January...When were the last ZL-1s made?? Anyone?? The 34 car is 02D...I imagine Fred got the rest of all his 50 cars soon after???
But the block is still worth good change to someone building a clone or not worried about the date. Also depends obviously on condition of block. And on what work needs to be done to the block to be usable.
For an idea, back a few years ago..when times were much better...I sold a few ZL-1 blocks on Ebay for over 10k...and they were not production blocks and they all were decent rebuildable...I do not have to much to go by as far as personal experience as I rarely sold too much.
In these days, I would not have a clue...my brother sells some things on Ebay and he says 'nothin' is selling now'....

I'd be interested if you are interested in a stress free cash sale, but it would have to be a real bargain...but honestly You may do better listing the parts on Epay...

As far as the heads..they are service heads and are only worth for someone that does not care about numbers/dates.

BTW...do you have a pic of the small stamped number on the back of the block just above where the center of the bell housing bolts on? Should also be stamped on the main caps. Should be a 2 or 3 digit stamped number about 1/4&quot; or 3/8&quot; tall. I have somewhat of a registry of some of these blocks and I would like to record the info for my database. Thanks, Max

Gibb's last ZL-1 Camaro was #52 N620934, Le Mans blue auto. It went to Australia and is thought to have been scrapped years ago. The engine from it is in #33. The last ZL-1 Camaro N650977 was built 05E. Rumored to still exist with OE engine.

Yes I do have some of those shots but can you first please explain what these numbers mean and why they would be important?.. Is it to match the caps with the block...kinda like &quot;numbers matching&quot;

I will add that I got this motor long ago..actually I had 3 of them.. 2 were sold with a monster truck I had. I got those motors from a Chevy factory backed road racer. This one pictured was the last one he sold me when his class went weight to cubic inch. They then started the small block era in their rides. This block has no defects..no welding..and is 30 over. Sleeves do have some surface rust but can easily be honed out.. I still want to keep this and start on a project car ..
