Yenko-Canonsburg
WOW... I've always been enamored with the super cars put out by dealerships in the past, but having grown up in Montana I had no real exposure to them except through the car magazines. My favorites were Yenko (they looked more factory) & Baldwin/Motion (they looked more threatening).
Now that I live in NHRA Div. 1, I am able to reminesce and live in the past a little. I took a drive to Canonsburg the other day to visit Pike St. & purused the old dealership. Talk about a somber and nostalgic feeling. I could imagine all the new fall 69's lined up and the Camaros & Chevelles tearing up the streets of that little Burg with the new owners having no idea what this Icon, Yenko, would become. Anyway it was fun. Thanks Cleary's for the web site. Dicky

Re: Yenko-Canonsburg
It is an eery feeling when you are walking the old Yenko lot in Canonsburg! Did you check out the little creek out back, or walk across the street to get the 'Jim Buckles' view?

Re: Yenko-Canonsburg
Marlin, I did not view from across the street but I did imagine the dirt lot out back full of new, yet to be serviced cars, as I had seen in photos from this site. Very cool, and some how wish it could be preserved in someway.

Re: Yenko-Canonsburg
What's the story on that building now? Is it for sale? There's a motorcycle/ATV operation there now or something? Why aren't there more events/shows there?

Re: Yenko-Canonsburg
Tracker, the place is occupied with some cycle type out fit but is in terrible disarray. I believe there was a "FOR LEASE" sign in the window, but considering the condition of the interior I would bet it could be bought.

Re: Yenko-Canonsburg
I was at a wedding close to there about a year ago, and took a drive past the dealership. I was really bummed to see the condition of the place. It was fun to imagine how it must have looked 40 years ago, but sad to see it now. I have a Dave Snyder print in my office to remind me of the "good ol' days"

Re: Yenko-Canonsburg

if the price is reasonable i will pursue it, save the building

Re: Yenko-Canonsburg
I'd certainly be willing to throw a few sheckles into the mix to keep it preserved. If we can be paying members on a website, we can be members in a building preservation group.

Re: Yenko-Canonsburg
For those of us that cannot visit in person, fear not as Google has us covered.
Click on the following link and select "street view". Enjoy the historic Yenko Chevrolet as if you were standing in the street directly in from of it. Yenko Chevrolet Street View Here is the dealership back in the day: |
