I don't think it was anything more than a standard four speed shifter. Just marketing from Mr. Gasket I imagine. I have a couple of these and there is nothing special that I can see. We installed one in a 64 Ford last summer. Worked very well but I will always prefer a Hurst.

The Mr. Gasket shifters always have thinner shift levers in the shifter body as opposed to the Hurst Competition Plus shifters.

They were only around for a handful of years before they bit the dust. Cool item for display though and to have for speed equipment history. |

Lol.
That's why I like the Hurst Ram Rod. Super easy to drive on the street. A buddy of mine had a 70 Z28 back in the mid-80's with a V-gate. We used to get stuck at stop lights with the thing hung up between gears. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: 68l30</div><div class="ubbcode-body">I used to run a Mr.G V-Gate on a old race car I had...Drive that thing on the street for a week....I swear... you had the strongest two fingers in town. Never had it hang up...but I did eventually rip the trigger right off it. Sent it to Hurst to fix it( they owned Mr. G at the time) and they sent me a brand new V-gate in return. The tech repairing it told me he took one look at it and threw it in the scrap hopper..Glad I kept the T handle and what was left of the old trigger. They just felt a whole lot better than the new stuff.

I've been running my Hurst V-gate since the early 1990's. Lot more street miles than drag racing miles and I love it.
Here is a side by side of the two (randomly found on the web). I would not think the Mr. Gasket is any thougher to drive. ![]() ![]() In the Grumpy Jenkins book they talked about how he designed his own shifter taking a 3 speed and adapting it to a 4 speed. Then he added a second stick just for reverse. I immediatley thought of a Vertigate, but now think it would be a pretty cool thing to do with one of those old M/T shifters in that link. |
